In the beginning, as we ventured into the world of licensing, we slowly peeled away the layers of knowledge needed to be a success. Starting with the state of Texas, we became licensed for UT, ATM, Baylor, Texas Tech, SMU, TCU, and others within the state. Later branching out to the entire nation, having almost fifty University licenses at one time, we were proud that our ornaments bore the prestigious University marks. Certainly, producing licensed ornaments took us a long way to becoming more known and collected.

As Kitty Keller Designs grew into a Nationally known brand, we were forced to take a hard look at licensing and the bottom line in creating licensed products. I was told early on in my business journey, to think of my business and a colander and to try and close as many holes in that colander as possible, honing in like a laser beam on what truly made the most sense and profit.

When creating a licensed product, one must first establish the legitimacy of one's business, then produce documents proving insurance, providing samples, and so on. This process takes time, money, and patience. When you see a product with the officially licensed tag be assured that this product has been completely vetted by the University represented. That is also why, when companies fraudulently use University logos and their products do not have an officially licensed mark, this hurts all the people who go through the process the right way, the Universities do not receive what they justly deserve as these are their official marks.ย

Licensing has become more and more expensive and considering our cloisonne ornaments are a limited resource, there are only so many cloisonne artisans in the world working today, so it has not made sense going forward to discontinue producing so many licensed products.ย

Our business is growing. We thank our loyal customers for that. Our cloisonne ornament production is limited. Thus we have again made the difficult decision to limit the licensed products we produce. However, if you have an interest in having us create a licensed product we are open to that opportunity and will work with you on making it happen. This is basically on a case-by-case basis depending on licensing costs.ย

Many products in our world are licensed. Licensing protects the creators, inventors, and artists working hard to come up with original ideas and for this reason, it is vital in our world.
